The PuriTec Salt-Free Softeners are specifically designed to break down the properties of hard water through a patented magnetic technology. The technology is more of a hard water “de-scaler” than a “water softener”. It is very effective in protecting plumbing and water-using appliances from hard water damage by preventing and removing existing hard scale build-up. Because it lowers the surface tension of water, making the water “wetter”, it also improves sudsing and rinsing than without although is not as effective as a true water softener. It does not make water “slippery soft”. This maintenance-free technology retains the water minerals Calcium and Magnesium as opposed to a traditional water softener which removes these hard minerals, replacing them with sodium. Because of this, if you test your water for hardness after installing, the water will still test “hard” because a test for “hardness” in reality is a test for the presence of certain minerals. The salt free conditioners in a sense breaks down the hard properties of the minerals without removing them.
